Run these commands in your terminal

Open a terminal (Terminal on macOS, Command Prompt or PowerShell on Windows) and navigate to your project's root directory. Then run:

1. Install the CLI (if you haven't already):

   cd packages/cli && pnpm link --global

   Copy

   Run this from the A11YSmith monorepo root after pnpm install and pnpm turbo build. See the Getting Started guide for full setup instructions.

2. Initialize agent configuration in your project:

   a11ysmith agent-init

   Copy

   This creates a .a11ysmith-agents.json file in your project root.

3. Generate agent files for your selected platforms:

   a11ysmith agent-generate --platform all

   Copy

   This creates agent files in your project (e.g. .claude/agents/ for Claude Code, .github/agents/ for GitHub Copilot).

Step 4: What's Next

After running the commands in Step 3, your agent files are generated and ready to use. Here is how to verify everything is working and start using your agents.

1. Verify the generated files

   Check your project directory for the new agent files. Depending on the platforms you selected, look for folders like .claude/agents/, .github/agents/, or .gemini/extensions/.

2. Start using the agents

   Open your AI coding platform (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in your project. The agents activate automatically when you work on UI code, running accessibility checks and providing guidance.

3. Explore available agents

   Browse the agent catalog to see all available agents and what each one does. You can also run a11ysmith agent-list in your terminal.

4. Customize your configuration

   Use the visual configuration editor to adjust hook enforcement, enable or disable teams, and fine-tune file patterns. Or edit .a11ysmith-agents.json directly.
